    Which tools...and how fast are they?

    With the machine spec below, what would be the best set of software to compleate a rip, from DVD to avi. To fit on 1 or 2 700MB cd's(Later) in the fastest time?

    In past times I have had experience with, DivX4.12 codec / FlaskMpeg / LAME MP3Enc Codec. But the file sizes produced with these were hit and mis, and the conversion only reached 5-7FPS, which were painfully slow, especialy if the file was naff after the rip!

    Recently I have installed the following software Divx4.12 codec DiX5.01gProBundle / XMpeg / Radium MP3 enc codec and VirtualDub.

    With encoding an NTSC DVD with Vid @ 720x540 (2009FBR)and Aud @ 48000KHz with De-Interlacing ON, Im getting around 14-16FPS

    Can I improve on this any more, or am I stuck waiting for 5 hours every rip,just to see if the avi produced is good or not.

    I use an AMD@1GHz.
    My software is Divx5.0, DVD2AVI and VitualDub.
    With 2-pass encoding I get about 21fps in the first pass and 25fps in the second pass, with resolution of 640x480.
    So if you use this software you should be much faster than realtime.

      Thanx for your speedy reply hermanthegerman;

      I have just downloaded the software and have installed it. But I'm now unfarmiliar with what I need in DVD2Avi, and VirtualDub
      Do you know of any good step-by-step instructions on how to use the combination of software you suggested for me to use, in order to divx a dvd?

      Thanx

          Easiest way to setup an DVD transcoding in virtualdub is to use GordianKnot, you can find a guide on this at www.doom9.net
          Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

            You can find some guides here at http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com
            But other than described in this guide, I prefer to encode the movie already in DVD2AVI instead of frame serving it to VirtualDub. I only use VirtualDub to encode the sound into MP3 and mix it with the movie. Some people say encoding in VirtualDub gives better quality, but I've seen no difference so far and beside of that it gives me more speed.

              Try giving GordianKnot + nandub combination a try. I've never looked for anything else afterwards.
