    Deinterlace an AVI in VirtualDub

I have just ripped a dvd to divX in 2 files of arround 550MB each...but they are interlaced!
It was taken from a NTSC DVD, with XMpeg/DivX 4.12 codec compression.
I have VirtualDub 1.4.10, and was going to apply a filter of deiterlace, but it somehow produces a file of around 2gig for each file...can anyone tell me where i' going wrong?

After selecting your deinterlace filter, under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and select your DivX v.4.12 codec and set the same settings as those you used when you originally created the file(s)...
