DVD to Flash

I've never done any Video work before.
I want to show a Music Video (I have the rights) on my website.
Its a dedicated server and I have plenty of bandwidth.
I've seen Video to Flash converters. They compress down to about 10% of the size of an AVI file.
Is it feasible to convert a 1 hour video to Flash?
Any hints and tips would be appreciated.

I looked at videos on google Video. The quality was not good, otherwise I would try that. (although it would probably take 8 hours to upload!)

Its not a "political site". This is my newspaper and its the place I want to run a video to support the troops. The reason I am asking about flash is that the video files are gigabytes, which means a Windows Media file is going to be huge, but Flash will be a much smaller footprint and still good quality.

Is there anyone here who has real experience with this?

Flash = VP62 which is not I would say any more efficient than WMV 9. How about an mp4 containing AVC and aac audio?

For a flv, you would need something like Sorenson Squeeze. Flash comes with a free converter, however it can't do a 2 pass encode. It does accept AVISynth input though, so does Squeeze though I think.

If you did go for AVC though you need to be carefull if you want QuickTime compatability. Main profile, 1 bframe, etc. since QT's AVC support is actually pretty crap.

You can google "convert video to flash" and there are many you can choose. The file you want to convert is so big, so i will advise you crop it for two or three parts. Then convert them to .swf or .flv files.
