Newbie question... editing copy protected DVDs

I would like to edit some sections out of a particular chapter. The simplest video editor I have is on my AV system (Pioneer DVR 633H), but it will not let me copy to the hard drive so that I can edit because it is a copy protected DVD. I have tried ripping it to my computer and also burned the ripped files back to a DVD, but the Poineer still chokes on it.

Can someone please suggest some software to either remove the copy protection, or prehaps some VOB editing software that will allow me to edit the file and burn back to DVD.

Would appreciate any suggestions!

Hi Ben...

I used VOBblanket to rip the DVD. The DVD itself is a commercial DVD that I purchased. It is an episode of Star Trek Voyager, and I wanted to use certain clips to illistrate ponts in a talk that I am giving next week.

In one particular chapter I would like to edit out some of the extraneous material that is not relevant to the pint that I am making... thus the requirement to do some clipping. If I could get rid of the copy protection I couls esily do this on my Pioneer DVR, but as long as the protection is there it will not let me copy the DVD to the hard drive.

Any suggestions most appreciated.

I am probably a newer newbie than you! I have no idea even where to start as far as editing things from my own, purchased commerical DVD's. There have been bits I have wanted to oust also. Would you be willing to make a step by step list of what you did, used?

Lee, than main thing that you need is software that will allow you to get past the copy protection. I needed excerpts from movies to support points that I was making in presentations, and I also wanted to add titles to reinforce the learning points. Anyway... Womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD is what you need... many thanks to Paglamon for this suggestion.
