Nero giving Illegal Disc error, please help!

disks and the burner are both getting old, ?????????
I would try a different disk and one of your disks in a different burner

there's also an outside chance your roxio software is conflicting with nero?

there's quite a bit of stuff running in the background

I don't have any other discs to try or I would... I've used about half of this bundle in the last month or so, and no problems. Now, I get consistent errors over the last two weeks. I haven't installed any new software programs... Roxio never conflicted with Nero burning DVD's before. I can burn CD's through Nero no problem... I just don't get it.

I'll have to pick up some new DVD's tomorrow and see if they'll burn or not.

I certainly hope not. I haven't even had this burner for 18 months. I've burned less than 100 discs with it. Why would it die so soon? I mean, other than it's a piece of crap SONY?

did you mess with your cables lately? I just noticed the optical drives seem to be on the primary ide? I prefer my dvd burner to be master not slave.

I bought a new pc late November last year, it has an internal DL lightscribe burner. I really haven't used it much at all as I have an external that I use 90% of the time. Probably haven't burn't 25 discs with it, usually just read with it. I've had problems with it lately and it turns out that the laser is bad in it. It didn't even last 6 months! At least it's still under warranty!

No. I run a recording studio, and I burn with the Plextor way more than I use the SONY. So I have the SONY as the slave. It's never posed a problem before.

I have used several Plex premium drives (16x,32x,48x,52x) sometimes paired as standalone masters in raid machines, I still don't put a hard drive on the secondary and opticals on primary. After I was doing some digital extraction of karaoke disks (hidden cdg video files in subtracks) and tested a new nec 3520 against my plex premium 52x, I found dvd burners to be superior to plex premiums. Of course I would never buy a rebadged liteon.

cd speeds(300KB/s X 52x/2) 8MB/s
dvd speeds 16x 22MB/s

For me, it has nothing to do with speed, yet everything to do with burn quality.

As an audio engineer, I have to supply Red Book masters for clients, and that means the least amount of errors as possible. The plextor Premium is the best burner known for error output. I average less than 3.0 C1 errors per second on 99% of my burns. The DVD burner averages almost 5.0 C1 errors per second. Almost double the amount of errors.

While both are acceptable in Terms of Redbook standard compliance, I much rather prefer the plextor drive. Not to mention I've never gotten a C2 error from it, and I've gotten plenty from the Sony.

Ok. Regardless... The audio world considers Plextor Premium as the elite burning drive for Redbook Mastering. As far as I've seen, the error output is far less than any other drive I've come accross so far. Mind you, I've only been working in recording studios for 6 years now... but as per my experience, it's the tops, at a minimal price.

Interestingly enough, Roxio will let me burn the same files Nero wouldn't, on the same media that Nero wouldn't....

Is it possible this is a compatibility problem with the latest version of Nero and my drive? Or is it possible that the firmware for my drive no longer recognizes my old media type, and Nero has a problem burning it when Roxio doesn't?

I'm slightly confused now.
