Wierd Conversion

ok im new to divx conversion

im trying to convert a mov (quicktime) to avi (divx)

the mov file is 5.3 megs, now im using RAD Video Tools to convert it to avi. I want it to have the same quality but the file comes out twice the size...i left DIVX codec on its default settings. can someone help me
i want the same quality and a smaller file or the same size but i dont want it to be larger

Are you (is the software) possibly converting the audiostream to Uncompressed PCM (WAV) format? If so, this would account for the increased size - which you could remedy later, by loading the .AVI into VirtualDub and converting the audiostream to a compressed format (e.g. MP3)...

how do i go about converting the audio into mp3 in Virtual Dub?

1) Load the .AVI into VirtualDub

2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Processing"

3) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"

4) Under the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" - and choose the MPEG Layer 3 (.MP3) samplerate that you prefer

5) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save with a new filename
