dubbing a tape onto a disc

Can anyone help answer a problem? Tried to dub a 2 hour slp tape onto a disc. Disc told me it had 2hr 15min left to record at lp. While dubbing it stopped at 1hr 35min because it ran out of disc space? Please be patient with this dummy and at least tell me what i did wrong.

We are going to need a bit more info. How is it you were doing this? On your pc, on as stand alone recorder? I know you stated that you were using a 2hr slp tape, but does that mean you only had 2 hrs on it? Doesnt a 2hr tape have the ability to record 6hrs when in slp mode? Is there a setting on the recording device that was possibly set incorrectly? Lets poke into a few more details and see if it leads anywhere.

o.k. this is a toshiba dvd-vcr recorder hooked onto mt cable tv. The tape is a maxwell t-120 6 hrs at slp. I taped a 2hr movie on the tape at slp speed with 4hrs left on the tape. The disc is a maxwell dvd-r with 4hrs at lp speed. on the disc i had allready dubbed a 2hr movie at lp, so the toshiba said there was still a little over 2hrs left(approx. 2hr 10 min) at lp. When i dubbed i set the disc at lp so i can't understand why the disc not only stopped recording at 1hr 35min, but it also won't let me finalize the disc either. When i put the disc in and push title menu, it only shows the first movie listed. Remember your talking to a 53 year old kindergardner, so thank you for your patience.
