nero cd/dvd speed question

I burn using imgburn and check the burn with cd/dvd speed. On my burns the disc quality score drops right away. From the beginning to 0.5 or 1.0 it drops 5-8 points on quality score. After that scan looks good all the way thru. Can someone give me some pointers on how to make the beginning of my burns better. I am using TY and Verbatim discs.
