Plz help , Is nero too crap for encoding DIVX

After some frustration , i finally chopped

a large flick , with Virtual Dub

But once to VCD , i got little video blocks

(Not sure what they are called technically ???)

i don`t think Virtual Dub done this , as original files are still fine

when played on PC.

i used Nero & it had to reencode , since this was a DIVX Mpg4 V. 3

I`m guessing this blocking happened in Nero , but in encoding

(As i hear nero is crap @ encoding) , or in the fact i burned @ 24 x

speed ??????

If indeed it is nero , what`s a good tool to convert such DIVX to

mpg , so i can make a good VCD in Nero ?????

i tried TMPGenc , but i see it wont do this sort of file .

Will the questions ever end Hehehehehe

It's difficult to understand your claim that NERO (regardless of quality) could convert the file, but TMPGEnc couldn't...

It was also hard for me to understand , but i was

persistant & rebooted my PC & then TMPGenc

converted the flick.

Still not sure why

Part of my original question was the video

blocks i got when i converted & burned in Nero

Is nero not something to use for reencoding ,

or was 24 X too fast to burn & caused the blocks ?

Did you get the same "blocks" when using TMPGEnc?

Was the .AVI encoded with the SMR hack of the DivX v.3.11 codec?

i haven`t had the time to burn to VCD after encoding in

TMPGenc , i`ll let you know , but both times there was

no blocking when played on my PC

In order to determine which codec was used to create a particular .AVI, you should do the following:

1) Load the file into VirtualDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

I believe that the 'blocking' is indeed due to your write speed, as i used to get these annoying blocking things when burning at full speed, but when i reduced the speed to minimum (2x), the picture quality was great (for a vcd at least) and there was no blocking.

Sorry a reply took 4 ever , but @ days end

all i can do is sleep , & a new day starts again.

i got the other flick working , so figured it was too

fast a write speed , so i wont bother you with a screen

shot to interpret(Though i`m curious as to what info

you`d see to determine codec used , this may be useful info

for future use )

But Alas , i have 2 more pro type questions for you to consider

1 . i have a flick , that i need the Nimo codec to get any audio

from . (It`s a .divx type) , so as a pro like you may already know ,

when i try to convert it to .mpg in TmpgEnc , the audio doesn`t

load

like all other files do(Audio source box is left blank) . So how do i

encode this flick to .mpg then 2 to VCD) with audio ?


2 . i have yet another flick , it`s an SVCD .

Which program do i need to convert this

to VCD , i dare not let nero do it , as it always

craps things when it re encodes

i tried nero to create an SVCD but ........................

My DVD player won`t play SVCD`s , it reads the time correctly

But wont play it . It is a reference series DVD , so i thought it

may , but no luck

i guess i`m SOL on playing SVCD`s on my DVD unit

Will i lose alot of this great quality converting to VCD ?

For your question 1), follow the procedures in my last post...

For your question 2), use TMPGEnc as follows:

File>>MPEGTools>>Simple Multiplex

Load your SVCD file

Change mode to "MPEG1-VideoCD"

Enter a new filename in the "Output" box

Press the "Run" radio button

(Do not be concerned about any "Buffer underflow" messages you may see)

Burn (DO NOT ask burning software, such as NERO to CONVERT to VCD, rather merely BURN as a VCD)

TMPGEnc-2.51.33.127 is that Mpeg 2 trial has expired

Maybe i wasn`t paying attention , i thought it was a

free program . No matter , i`ll try as you say not as i

i followed your instructions precisely with the

SVCD file in TMPGEnc-2.51.33.127

The end result was a large audio file

No video(You probably know i cant load the

SVCD in Virtual dub to send ya a screen of it`s

properties-Due to this

'Mpeg import filter-pack synchronization error)

Have you ever heard of this & how can i fix it so i

can make a VCD with it ?

i also attatch a screenshot of the flick that needs

Nimo codec to play any audio & then Tmpgenc cant

find audio to make a VCD(We spoke of this earlier & i finally

took a screenshot of it )

i don`t mean to overwhelm you(i do have another question

& screenshot i`ll save till this ones solved)

Of the 2 i`d prefer to settle the SVCD problem 1st , in case

your feeling overwhelmed
