    Set slow burn speeds??

    I use a lite-on 1693s with Sony 16x +/- R disks. The burner supports only
6x-8x-12x-16x burn speeds. Imgburn lets me reset the burn speed to 4x
but the actual burn is being done at 6x. How can I burn these disks at a
slower speed than they are rated or supported for?

I don't think you can. The manufacturer's spec. is the reference point. I do not think ImgBurn can override any burners specified range. Why would you want to? If there isn't a firmware update to handle that I think your out of luck?

I agree with tmcats, why would you want to? With todays quality media coupled with quality drives, higher speeds can be used with quality results. You need to make sure that your firmware is current and that you are using good discs and all should be well. I burn my TY 8X discs at 8X and my 16X discs at 12X and get consistent results.

            start here

see which family your drive is in?

so the last drive is that family is the 1653
            which takes you to CSOT

but that looks like the same date as BSOY jan 2006

you have to download the firmwares and compare media tables,
            open with MediaCodeSpeedEdit

Forget that question I found it under the omnipatch documentation. The whole process looks like more trouble than it's worth. I imagine someone could really fine tune their drive . If it looks good at 80" on my projector thats good enough for me. I wouldn't do it on a drive with a warranty as Lite-On does check the firmware (at least their Tech told me they did) and a hacked firmware would void the warranty and if it crapped out you wouldn't be able to flash it back to it's original state.

O.K., where do I get MediaCodeSpeedEdit. I am starting to feel adventurous. I also noticed on your post where you had the pic of the graphs showing the quality of burns, is that a Nero thing?

a lot of people with sony or other oem drives that are really liteon's can't burn newer media without crossflashing their drives, other companies abandon firmware support far sooner

                  1633 still on warranty?

that's a 3rd generation drive, they are up to 6th now?

Yeah, I got an extended warranty when I purchased it that totalled 3 years. 1 year from the manufacture and for $10.00 bucks 2 years from Tigerdirect after the manufacturer warranty ends.

                          Thanks all, for the info.
Just to clarify...the Sony 16x media is "made in Japan".
                          The +R codes @ D21-00.
                          The -R codes @ TY-G03.
Burns have been quite good with the -R media at 6x.
At 12x, quality is a bit less.
