    Poor picture quality, need help.

I am brand new to capturing any kind of video onto my computer. All I want to do is take about 16 seconds of video from my digital sony camcorder and make a file on my computer.

I tried using the Picture Package software which came with the camcorder, and it produced a 65 megabyte avi file which was practically unviewable.

I then used the Window Movie Maker software and got a better quality wmv video, but its still horrible.

I've got a Dell Dimension 4700 computer with USB 2.0 (supposedly).

    What am I doing wrong?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I've got the same problem! And you have gotten further than I have.

I have 2 hours of video that I wanted to edit, but the programs saves it in 10 minute intervals and now I don't know which one is first, etc. I'm hoping to find a more user friendly program.

Capture with WinDV using a firewire card. Then edit ur captured DV-AVI in any video editor u like(WMM is not very good IMO;Ulead Video Studio is pretty good).

        Hi Paglamon,

Can you suggest a "Freeware" (if any) instead of ULead?

        Thanks,
        G!

It depends on the type of editing u want to do.Simple cuttings and joinings can be done with freeware. But I doubt whether u will find any freeware for more elaborate editing. However Ulead does give a period of free and fully functional trial.Try it.
