Help....!

Please help find out if there's a chance of salvaging a slightly defective vintage dvd (Once upon a time in the West)? It freezes on a given frame, then moves along and freezes again soon after and so on onto the end. The single chapters can be selected, though. I've lost a few 8.50 dvds so far to no avail. I've already tried Recode2 and everything seems to work fine, but when I burn there it goes again. Thank you very much.

First of all Columbo is my favourite tv character, I've had the chance to meet (and speak to) Peter Falk and he's great.
Secondly I'm a rookie here and a total jerk.
Third I don't seem to be able to locate the proper buttons.
Therefore any help is not only wanted but extremely necessary.
