major system error it crashes and reboots the computer,.

it reboots becouse its a system defult,. (whenever computer encounters a major error)

play the same movie on the other labtop nto hooked up tot he tv,.
plays fine,..hook that labtop up to the tv,.......works fine,

labtop 1 (the problems) only has divix 5.0

I would guess the machine overheated.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

because DIVX 5 and 4 uses ALOT of CPU power. 3.11alpha doesn't and produces better quality.

DIVX 3.11alpha mainly process from hdd or CD and uses only 10% CPU power.

Are you so sure about that? From my experience, they seem to have about the same CPU power requirement, though 4 tends to require less.

This is not true for different movies and systems (CPU time requirement). Also, how else is the movie supposed to be processed, if not from HDD or CD?

Just trying to straighten out facts here. No offense intended.

takemynamedamit (Uhh...), DivX playback does require considerably more CPU power than DVD playback. You could try lowering the filter settings of the DivX codec and also making sure that DirectX and the latest stable driver for your graphics card are installed. Otherwise, you could try tinkering with your BIOS to see if there is any graphics-related setting that could have caused this. Otherwise, I would agree with khp's suggestion on the laptop being overheated (though this shouldn't be, as the manufacturers ought to make sure against it).

I actually find that DivX4 requires less CPU power than 3.11, though I can't offer an explanation here.

Duron @1.8GHz??? I don't think there is such a thing. Even the Duron will be phased out (or already is).
