How do I compress movie to fit on CD?

Can someone help me with 'how can I compress a movie that is over 700 mb in size so it will all fit on a 700 mb cd?' I have a number of movies that are just a tad too large to fit say--707 and 715 mb. (I can split them with TMPGenc but is there another way?
thanks and have a good day

If your movie is an .AVI file, you can use Virtual/nandub to split the file. Actually, you can use the program to remove the end credits and help you bring the file size down to just enough for a 700MB CD.

You could also use virtual dub to reduce the bit rate just a smidge so that it fits. I have that problem many times where I will make an error in calculating the proper bit rate for a movie to burn on a cd and then four hours later it's 10 MB too big DOH! then i just use virtual dub and drop the video or audio bitrate down a little bit without loosing too much quality.

If you're using NERO to burn your CD-Rs, you should be able to set it to "overburn" (and "disk at once") - which may permit you to burn up to 750Megs onto a 700Mb CD-R...

You have to be really careful with overburn through, it only works with certain types of CDs. If you use the wrong kind of CD you might mess up your burner

                To Mark Madness

The worst that will happen when trying to use NERO to overburn a Cd-R is that you'll get a message stating that the CD-R "has insufficient space" to burn the file...

Really? How strange. I guess Nero just wants to make me buy more CDs and freaking me out by telling me I'm gonna wreck my CD burner.

Since overburning is an "non-standard" aspect of NERO, the authors quite appropriately have included a disclaimer.

Have you, in fact, "wrecked your burner"? Or do you have FIRST-HAND knowledge of anyone who has done so, specifically by using NERO to attempt to overburn a CD-R?
