How to determine what type of file you have

how can i tell what type of file i am looking at?

when i right click>properties all it tells me is "movie clip"
how do i know if it's mpg, avi, mpeg, mpeg4 or the billion other formats i'm totally confused about?

surely "movie clip" isn't a type of file......?

Or if you're after more than the file extension, use MediaInfo

I advice every body to do that, many viruses trick you as jpg or other file type (and use the same icon) while they are exe
