    NEC drive-Won't play original DVD

I have an NEC ND 6500A drive on a Dell Inspiron 5150 which normally works fine. However, I have come across 2 original (not copied) movies that will not play --Disney's Fantasia (2000 version) and Walk the Line. Both will play fine in my stand alone DVD on TV. When I insert the disc on the NEC, the drive revs up and down several times and then stops. I have played the Walk movie on a newer HP PC without problem. But the Disney movie will not play on that PC either. I use Zone Alarm (turned off), AVG Virus (turned off) and Spybot S&D (no tea timer). Both discs are scratched (from the local library). Is it probable that my NEC drive is more intolerant of disc scratches than my stand alone DVD drive? Or, is there something I am missing? Thanks for any help.

The scratches would be a good possibility for your read failure.
