    .more than likely its a divx..install the divx codecs and you might also have to change the audio to a wav then put it into tmpg...you never know what you are downloading.

      In order to determine which codec(s) you need for a particular .AVI, you should do the following:

      1) Load the file into VirtualDub

      2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

      3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

            You need to download and install the DivX v.3.11 alpha codec (which automatically includes installation of the Radium MP3 audio codec)...

                Were you able to play the downloaded file under Windows Media player (or similar)?

                  A general note, TMPGEnc is incompatible with DIVX 5.xx. You would need to uninstall, then re-install the appropriate codecs.

                  I would load the file in Virtualdub, are you confonted with any particular prompt or error?

                        i was just wondering if the reason it wont let me convert is because of the frame rate being too low, the files that i have that wont work with tmpgenc all have frame rates of like 12 fps and 20 fps the ones that do work are 29.97 or 25 fps and they will open in tmpgenc without the error message that says file not supported, unable to open. Is there a way to change the frame rate without messin up the audio video synch???

                            If you really want to bother, use VirtualDub to try and convert the file to an acceptable format. Set Video compression to DivX v.3.11 slow motion and Audio conversion to 44,100 Kbps and Audio compression to MPEG Layer3 44,100 128Kbps (You may have to put a checkmark in the box that 's labeled "Show all formats"). Then save with a new filename.

                            Let us know of your success ;>}
