Can't even get started burning dvd's

I just bought a sony DRU-120C DVD+R dual layer burner. My computer came with a DVD-ROM and a CD-Writer. I simply wanted to replace the CD Writer with the Sony DVD burner.

I shut down and unplugged the computer as per the instructions. I removed the cd writer and replaced it with the DVD burner. There were only 2 cable going into the back of the cd writer, a power and a serial.

Upon restarting my computer, I installed the Nero software disc that came with the burner. Then I tried to make burn my first copy. The computer locked up after I chose "copy DVD". Couldn't control, alt delete or anything. Just locked up. I went through this several times. Then, sometimes the computer wouldn't boot up. Later I couldn't get on the internet, I would have to keep restarting it.

Now I have unplugged the dvd burner as that is the only way my computer doesn't flip out. I don't have a clue what is going on. I uninstalled the Nero software, and reinstalled it, but that didn't help either. Can anyone help me?

    Thanks,

    John

Are the master/slave setting correct on the back of the new drive?

as loco says, see what the drive you pulled was set for master/slave/cable select and set the new drive the same

just a thought - make sure all power/ide connectors are securely plugged in - maybe bumped something loose?

You'll likely need to set the region before you can use it too...
