10$ after rebate, as long as it's not DOA then that's a good deal

if you can cram it and the extra cables in, it should run anything you can cram in there with it

I see a build(home) in your near future

course I said the same about loco a while back

definitely my next move is to build. that we'll take a step at a time when ready. lots to cover w/that.

this power supply should fit in my tower though right? most likely the cables you're referring to as far as cramming. this one not the one br7 had issues with correct? he has a dell also, but lil more advanced.

looks like it might fit, but you need to measure and take a close look at the dell power supply and the new one

                150 x 140 x 86 mm
                new power supply

take the side off your case and measure your dell power supply, those dimensions you quoted were the case

course I said the same about loco a while back
You were right. I've started amassing some parts, but I'm waiting til I get it all together before I start a thread.

                  Parts obtained thus far:
                  1. Case
                  2. Ram (2 gigs)
                  3. Samsung 203B
                  4. WD 750 gig Sata HDD

I've been eyeballing that CoolerMaster eXtreme 600 PSU for zero deniro, but I've been advised elsewhere to go with another PSU from OCZ or Corsair. I'll probably buy the mobo and CPU last, which will probably be after the first of the year and hopefully the prices will be slightly lower. Currently looking at an ASUS 775 and C2D. Those are really the last three things I need for now...PSU, mobo & CPU and I should be able to get started.

Here is my build thread...while intentions are good, the guys got a little carried away with suggestions and debate so I've let it die for now.

chewy you know your stuff. i just got offline w/a dell tech. he said my system could only hold from 250 to 300 watts. that the atx 500watt could burn my system.

is he right? i don't think you would of even suggested this one if that were the case. if it can handle it i'll pull the trigger on it. if not maybe you could suggest another one. thnx.

no point in trying to overclock or get carried away with a mobo, that cas 5 ram will hold you back, but not hurt running the cpu at stock

hence no need for a premium heat sink fan

with a lame gpu you won't need to break the bank with a power supply

people love spending other people's money, they don't have to live with the wife

2 gigs will fly with windows xp and video encoding/transcoding

admin would suggest a better vid card, something H264 friendly

wait a while and you should be able to get a ati 2600 for 100$ or less, 256 megs of ddr3?

That was my rationale....you know I'm not a gamer and probably won't be doing alot of tweaking/OC'ing

the supervisor from dell just called me. kind of apologized for the rookie tech online. said they only tested my e310 w/250-300 watts. said the atx would be ok.

                              will it?

never heard about "too strong" a power supply, maybe too big

that's all i was concerned about with your mini case

look at the back of your case and how the new one will line up

the new one looks to be 5 1/2-6 inches deep(back to front) so that should fit

you'll need some small wire ties to fold the extra cables out of the way tho

                                measure the
