hi chewy. the 115d is defective. sending it back to newegg. istill have my original ide lg burner that came w/my dell. it's good. i can put that in place of this 115d, and exchange the 115d from newegg for another ide from a different manufacturer, and i'll have 2 sata ports open after i take out the samsung which appears 2 b the scenario right now. do you suggest getting another ide from a different maker to complement my lg, or just get a refund and buy something else? remember pioneer is sending me a "new non-defective 112d" or so they say. bottom line i think i'm thru w/them. have 2 see what happens when they send me the new 1. other than that i still think i'm going 2 need a new ide burner, and mab play w/an extra hd later. what's your suggestion? if go 4 another ide burner w/the refund, or rma from newegg, then which 1 you recommend? lite-on's aint doing so well either in respect to certain blank media.

you would need to try the "defective" hardware in another computer?Comment

samsung works great, and so does the lg that i installed yesterday when i sent the 112d back. don't think it's my pc. i'll just get my money and take a loss 4 now i guess. let me see what pioneer sends me. either way i'll need a new ide.SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

hi chewy. nothing new. i put back the original lg my dell came with the same way it was hooked up from the beginning. the 2 pioneers were burning dvds fine, but not cds. they were hooked up the same way as the lg w/the ide cable and an independent power cable from the new atx psu. they have issues w/cds. that's why the recall, and that's why newegg gave me $20 off + no shipping on the 115d i received today. that wouldn't burn cds either.
i already sent it back, but this time they would only reimburse me what i paid - any shipping if i get another burner from another manufacturer. i'm waiting 2 see what pioneer sends me in place of the 112d i sent them bcause of the recall. in the mean time is there another ide besides lite-on, and pioneer that you would recommend? how are those asus, and the necs? some asus get good reviews. lg is good, but i'm going w/you on them not being to great on firmware. i read about that also. how about panasonic? don't they make good burners? think they're more expensive though.SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

my via chipset doesn't support sata burners, I have my old lg4163 still plugging away,
my benq 1650 for occasional scans and my old benq 1620 in reserve
hopefully this pioneer problem will pass, newer or even older models(manufacturing dates)
didn't have the problem, just drives made for a few monthsComment

i hear you loud and clear on this. just finished going through some threads at cdfreaks. all sorts of issues. searching is a b...h. too many posts, and threads. stresses me out most of the time. any suggestions on search methods?
when i get the drive from pioneer themselves, then i'll have my answer. i don't think they would themselves send me a defective drive after their own recall. i'll find out soon enough.
btw what does via stand for in regards to your chipset?SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

Asus A8V Deluxe
has a via northbrige and southbridge chipset with extra promise sata controller
it was 150-200 when it came out, I had a chance to buy them for 48$ refurb
there were no sata burners 3 years ago when it was designed
my actual board was a revision 2 with a working agp/pci lockLast edited by Chewy; 9 Jan 2008, 03:02 PM.Comment

newer boards have lots more sata's, skimp on pata as you know or use a crap chipset like jmicron
new e-serial is probably the best innovative advancement
the ddr2 options now are so cheap, you can have 4 gigs of ram for less than what a gig would have cost a year or two ago
the pci-e 16 and now pcie-2 standards and appropriate video cards have quadrupled performance in the last 2 years
cpu maybe only doubled or tripled with quad core
hard drives just a little faster, but now you get 2 or 3 times as big for the same priceComment

ok. just 4 the record it's the same mobo as in the specs 4 the e310 on dell's site. just the sata ports are rearranged in a different location. overclock report from everest home free? just google everest and take it from there?
we're just seeing what i have now, and how much better the new build would b right? i'm not looking 2 use any of my e310's features other than my burners, and anything else you might suggest.SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,
