ok. the sata #'s just an indicater of rate transfer? nothing 2 do w/the # of the sata port correct? jumper is how it's hooked up 2 cable, not a cable itself per say?

some older motherboards with sata 1 need a jumper set on the back of some sata 2 hard drives

i got you. just read up on jumper settings. don't see any sata 2s though on newegg. unless i'm confusing the 3gb spec for the sata 2 spec. this 2 totally different things? i'm going to read the whole specs on a barracuda that's on sale right now. $64.99 free shipping.

sata 1 is 150 MB/s
Sata 2 is 300 MB/s
dma5/pata ata 133 was 133 MB/s

that larger cache is about the only thing that can go that fast, the actual hard drives
do well to get much above 50 MB/s

thnx chewy. i'll get back 2 the seagate, and this info in bit. right now just want to give an update on the new samsung ide 20x sh-s202j i just put in and tested w/both dvd, and cd. on the money. quiet as a church mouse. no problema w/dvd, or cd. looks like mayb anyone in the market might want to go w/sammies for now. lets see 2 to 3 days or weeks. right now i'm completely content.

thnx doc. took me by surprise when i went to check out their weekly deals, and saw the link to the buy out. was wondering why the heck they wouldn't pick up the phone. so what r we left w/on the outside, radio shack? best buy i usually did videos, and electronics, do they have a large selection of goodies, accessories, etc. etc. i'm being lazy here. lol. there's 1 not too far from me.

lil update. i received and installed my pioneer DVR-112DBK v.1.21. it burned the cds it was having problems with. had to adjust settings in burrrn to do so. sometimes had to uncheck CD-TEXT, and Raw Driver, and leave SPTI. whether or not this was the issue b4 is a mood point. it's burning my cds now, and now i have 2 new ide burners, freeing up my sata port w/the samsung 4 that sata hd i'm contemplating getting.

next time i get same issue, i'll play w/the settings of the proggie i'm using b4 sending it back. what can i say. experience best teacher, if in fact it was the case here.

at least doublecheck everything or even triple check before sending the second hardware item back

imgburn would have burned a data cd to troubleshoot the burner?

always check with more than 1 software and more than 1 type of burn

i've only used imgburn 4 burning video files. i did 1 cd, but i had to create an image b4 burning it. it was audio. how do you burn a data cd w/imgburn? glad you brought this up because i never did get it.

btw i upgraded the firmware on the 112d to 1.24. it has its issues still w/cds as i had about 2, mab 3 coasters today. what's w/this MediaCodeSpeedEdit proggie that's out. do you recommend this tweeker, or should it go the way of all those tweeks mentioned in the viper's site as far as disabling background proggies. i really don't want to start messing around w/firmware. totally new to it.

hi chewy. just got some feedback from 1 of the big guns in another forum regarding the 112d. bottom line is it's a crap drive. you're right i got back more, or less the same 1. hey, at least it burns dvds. taking it out, and sticking to my sammys. i'll use it mab as back up in case any of my sammys go down, or any other good working drive i end up getting. shame.

yep. shamus. he's not the only 1 though. plenty of threads in different forums. just wanted it to b correct w/both medias. i did pay 4 that. they should just market the darn thing as a str8 up dvd burner. no cds. the dvd burning isn't bad at all. pretty steady once it reaches the desired speed.
