    Problem with a friends Nero

My friend knows less than I do about computers, which is sad.

She can't use her Nero. It says that the version has expired. She bought Nero Express, though when I go to install it, it goes to remove Nero then says it cant & thats it.

I'm not game enough to delete Nero because it says that other programs use it & they could be affected.

The computer isn't 12 months old & is still under warrenty though I know it doesn't cover the software.

I know she plays around with her picture's alot & wants to do back ups of her childrens cartoons.

    Cheers

    She bought Nero Express
could you elaborate on this? it should never expire, she might have upgraded instead of updated, that would kick her into a trial mode for nero, which would expire

I have updated my nero 6 many many times

I'm not sure... I know she has a proper disc for Nero Express, it may be Ahead Nero, I'm definately no expert.

It is the Nero thats on her computer thats expired, I dont know the ins & outs of it, only that it wont go away so I can put another one on there.

I haven't tried updating it off the internet, Ive only tried to put Express on with a disc.

Would the update site be at www.nero.com ?

      Thank you for your help.

Has she burnt with Nero lately, if so can she go in to Program Files / Ahead /Nero / Nero History & post the oldest log & the newest log without the serial number. Just copy & paste in a reply post.

Edit: sorry if you find the oldest log, write down the serial number on a piece of paper & keep it safe for now.

          Hi Soup,

Tammy hasn't been able to use Nero because it says its expired, and I know that 'log' is a computer term, though the only 'log' I'm aware of goes in the fire. Sorry. "Keep it safe"? Are they that important?

I would be able to copy & paste it if I knew where to look though, I'm sure. I found it on my computer. I'm going over there within the next 4 hours so I will look for it.

          Thank you.

            1. nero does not expire
            2. if you try to upgrade not update, it installs a trial version of the upgrade,
            which will expire

Thank you Chewy, what a handsome devil you are, lol.

I would say that its an 'upgrade' then huh?

Am I able to 'update' or should I 'upgrade? I don't realy know the difference, though I can follow instructions. (If I know what the terminology is).

Is there anything I can do? Please say in simple terms if there is.

Sorry to be such a pain. I've been reading other threads & I must say you are all so knowledgable, where as I cant understand a word of it unless I've had the same problem.

Version 6.5 to version 6.6 is an update.(moving into different subversions of version 6)
Version 6.x to version 7.x is an upgrade.(moving from lower version 6 to higher version 7)

ok, you would need to run the nero clean tool(s) to get rid of the trial version of nero then reinstall her original version

That's why the serial number on the oldest log is so important.

IMO, upgrading from 6 to 7 is a bad idea... I hate the new Nero programs, and a CD burner is a CD burner whether you have Nero Burning ROM 6 or 7...

But that's just me... one sure-fire way to see if it's still registered is to open Nero 6 (if you still have it), there should be a "Serial numbers" panel that has your serial in it, I forget what it looks like.

I'm not game enough to delete Nero because it says that other programs use it & they could be affected.
May I suggest downloading the newest Nero 6 revision (it's on their site somewhere), and installing that. It will overwrite the existing files, and should let you uninstall it legit (sometimes if program files get deleted, it can't uninstall because it's missing the files needed to do so)
