    WMP and Resolutions

    Hi guys...

I've been trying to make a - cough - backup of The Matrix using Flask.
Problem is I can't get WMP to play back an AVI with a resolution
other than 352 x 288 and I'm hoping to get a better quality file for this movie.
I tried 400 x 336 which looked a lot better in POwer DVD, but I need to use WMP if I'm going to play the AVI back from CD.

Any ideas would be appreciated as this is really bugging me.
WMP just plays the sound of AVIs with other resolutions.
Properties within WMP doesnt even mention a video codec - it thinks its just an MPEG3 audio file!

Any help would be great ... thanks!

    Do you use WMP 6.4?

Its WMP 8.00 - came as standard with XP.

Its confusing because it plays AVIs fine unless you increase the resolution beyond what I said. It then plays the audio ok, but instead of video you get those visualisations it does when you play music.

I admit I'm stumped - I'ved tried different settings, and both the 3.11 and 4.12 divx codec with no success.

DIVX codecs have trouble with wmp 8, and to a lesser extenetn with wmp 7.1 I would recommend you revert back to 6.4, and then see the results.

Thanks for the tip Batman ... thought it might be somethin like that : - (

So thats the answer - I need Win Media Player 6.4?
Is there nothing I can try to get WMP 8.00 working?

Or maybe another type of player would do divx cd's instead? The trouble is I like some of the features on 8.00 .... I tried Real Player - but the quality sucks big time.

          Thanks!

No. Howver, WMP 7.x seems to work fine in most cases.
There are many other versatile divx players, most notably Sasmi and you'll probably find one that you like

                search download.com

divx-digest.com/software---view the player section it should be there.

Otherwise, a search on google.com with "sasami" should yield the website of the player.

Hope this helps What type of features are you looking for?

                  Thanks again Batman

Just got Sasami2k and it seems to work fine - hehe
It seems like a nice bit of software, too.

As for features I'm not a fussy man - good quality video and sound is enough for me.

Back to making that Matrix CD ... ; - )
