    driver needed

Hi there, I am a newbie and thought I'd get straight down to business.

I'm looking for a driver for a SONY DCR TRV 140E PAL Digi8 camcorder for windows vista.

I previously had windows 98 and couldn't instal the driver on that system as it was too old. The driver I received with the cam is now out of date for vista and won't instal either. Very annoying.

    Can anybody help.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply, but this option is a dead end. It states that I don't need to instal a driver as windows vista should recognise the cam. It doesn't.

On first coming across the problem, I tried installing the software that came with the cam on my new pc windows vista, which only partially worked installing the Pixela image maker.
The driver will not instal,(apparently compatable for windows 2000 / ME) and that's as far as I've got.

If I plug the cam in via the usb, nothing happens, the pc says the usb port is empty.

I do need a driver for vista as it is just not working.

      Anyone?!?

What about installing the software that came with the camera..but install it using the compatiability feature in Vista?

Before running the setup program of the camera software, right click on the setup file off of the CD and click properties, then click the tab "compatiability", then in the drop down menu select Windows 2000/ME. This will tell the PC to install this software in compliance for 2000/ME.

Give it a try, as I also have a new Vista machine and had to use the compatiability features for much of my software, I have had no problems with installing programs meant for older OS's using the compatiability feature. It might work for you too.

        Here..I will fix it!

Thanks for the input. I have managed to instal it under XP service pack 2 compatability.
However, the pc won't find the cam via the usb, i've tried all 6 of them. No go, nothing happens. Also, in the pixella programme which I suppose is the working end of things to view, grab and edit video from the cam, the programme just closes down when trying to open the capture environment.

I'm now on the beige side of being browned off. Help or advice would be appreciated. Especially as the fat blob shop exp who sold me the cam 4 yrs ago seemed wholly unconcerned as to the incompatability problems and gave me the platitude about technology developing so fast and the best thing to do was buy a newer cam.

          Anyone?

Chewy, I've got the instruction book here, the camera is a DCR-TRV140E PAL (Europe) Digital8 from 2002.

I want to copy my family / holiday video to the pc and edit it and burn to dvd. Also upload my own playing music to youtube myspace etc.

                    Duffy,
Connect the cam through Firewire(or iLink) instead of USB and see if PC recognises it.

Unfortunately, I do not have either of those options on the PC.

Only the USB option open to me. I've even tried checking the compatability tab in vista, setting it to windows 98, and tried installing it on my old PC. It won't work either. The camera just isn't recognised.

Oh wow. Cheese and biscuits time.

                      Anyone with more ideas?

like pag said, it's firewire or else, usb is not intended for dv capture, too many dropped frames

get a firewire card, preferably one with a TexasInstruments chipset

usb is specified for jpeg/still transfers only

If that's the only option, I'll have to look into buying one.
I just keep thinking that somewhere along the line I've been mugged. The camera should work on the PC. It says so in the manual and on the box it came in. Or am I just bein' silly?

I haven't, the problem seems to be that when I plug the camera into the PC, nothing happens, no 'ping' sound, no swirly wheel that says somethings been plugged in and it's tryin' to locate it, or the driver to run it.
I know the usb ports work cos I've been using them for the mp3 player and such.
I can't see how movie maker (is that part of media palyer?) streaming will help any if the pc can't find the camera! I feel very much like chewy in your avatar!

                              Any other ideas?
