I downloaded an avi but cant play it

Can anyone help me out please...
I downloaded an avi file that is 141 mb long. It is half of a movie.
I also have virtual dub and Divx 5.0 I have tried to open this avi file with a number of different prog. but it wont play although the timer will come out and the progress bar appears to be playing it but nothing will show in the display area. I am a newbie can someone tell me what i must do in order to get this to work.
By the way the file extension on the file I downloaded is vcd.ts-tfe
maybe this will tell you something
    Thanks forum

Most likely it is a "fake".

However, to find out exactly, load the file into "virtualdub" post any errors or prompts you are confronted with and the "file information." Also, see if you can play the file in Virtualdub.

I tried to open in virtual dub and although two windows open up when I try to move the frame bar each frame just appears to be black. I am downloading another file instead of using this one I will try to work with the next one. When I download this avi and I open it in virtualdub, I should see the images in the boxes right? If not can you tell me what I must do to play the avi and see if it works.
Thanks batman. Not to many people want to help a rookie at this out.

Open file in Virtualdub, then File -> File Information. Post everything you see in the box.

Did you try rebuilding the AVI index in it?
Since it's half a movie the index may be missing.

I usually use DivFix to do it.
