Hello all,
just joined the forums to start absorbing information on shooting digital video. I am a 23 year old photographer looking to eventually jump into photojournalism and I've learned that it's a good idea to have a background in digital video and editing. I have a firm knowledge of photography, and hopefully a lot of information will carry over to video. I've used an old JVC digital video camera and done a bit of editing in iMovie before, so I also know the most basic mechanics.
Anyways, my main question is: what kind of camera do you think would allow me to start practicing shooting and still have high enough quality video to be able to grow into? Would you recommend tapes, dvds or a built in HD? What's a good resource for someone to start understanding the fundementals of shooting DV and also learning the basics of the equipment? The uses of the camera will be from filming basic travel footage to just messing around shooting feux documentaries about my dog and stuff (lol), atleast for now.
Any other suggestions/anecdotes/etc. for someone just starting out would be great.
