How can I measure video quality?

Ok, so i know my question isn't strictly related to divx problems and the rest, but i need some help from people with actual computer knowledge (unlike me)

i need to find some software that will objectively measure the quality of my compressed video sequences, like how blurry or blocky they are (they were compressed with divx)

anyway, i need it for a project, so any help would be greatly appreciated.....
    thanks!

Some professional video-editors allow to show the difference between two video-files. So you can compare the uncompressed DVD (via VFAPI) with the compressed avi. But that is only for expirienced users.

On way to measure the quality is the "bit per pixel"-value, which describes how many bits are used per pixel. Simply use the formula below:

      bit per pixel = bitrate / (fps*width*hight).

Remember that the normal DivX-bitrate is in kbps and you have to multiplicate it with 1000 (or 1024 if you use DivX3.11) to get the bitrate (and not the kilobitrate).

A value of 0.3 to 0.5 is good quality.
      don't trust in guides
