Adding Subtitles to Videos (keep it simple please!)

    Dear Anyone.

I have Dekalog, a bunch of Polish films, in Polish. I have downloaded the subtitles separately, they are a .PHP file. The films themselves are .AVI.

I have software which can convert video between most formats.

How do I add the subtitles to the films so I can convert the result to VOBS, put them on a normal DVD and play it on a TV-connected DVD player, reading the subtitles as I watch the movies? All I can find out about .PHP files is they're something to do with a program called Apache, which I don't know anything about.

Because I don't have anything to open .PHP files I don't know if I'll need to split the subtitles up into separate files for each video - Dekalog is 10 separate short films, the PHP file I downloaded said it's ALL the subtitles. I have no idea how to split the subtitle file up!

If anyone can help me, or point me to tutorials suitable for absolute beginners, I would be very appreciative!

    Yours hopefully

    Also see this:http://www.fileinfo.net/extension/php

BTW, search for subtitles in .srt format.

Did you use any download accelerators to download these files? If yes, then try downloading again using the default download manager available with your browser. If the download server does not support Download Accelerators, you will get PHP files instead of your desired file.

Once you get your Subtitle files in the desired format like .srt as pglamon mentioned, you do not need to do anything to add these to your AVI file. Just name the subtitle file exactly same as your AVI file, put both AVI and Subtitle file in the same folder and voila! Your Software Media PLayer (or your Standalone player) will play the subtitle automatically with the video.
