    High Res playback issues (general)

    Hi there,

    I've been making videos for the past year now from content captured generally in 1280x720, all digital. I've always had issues rendering this footage out in 720, and usually resort to having an end product in 640x360 or there abouts, as rendering out in 720 seems to be unstable, offers blocky playback EVEN with extremely high bitrates, and used to take days on my old computer, so testing things in higher resolutions was a pain.

    Now, with my new quad core monster I'm recording my raw footage at my monitor's native 1440x900 and I am really wanting to resolve these problems rendering out high def content so I can at least offer 1280x720, higher would be nice but I feel 720 is great as is and offers what anything higher can do anyways.

    So, are there any general tips or reccomendations for rendering to 720, which is generally a decent codec to use and what settings etc. I know my way around things but it always seems a bit nit-picky an I'd appreciate any advice from people who may already have been working with this type of content for a while.

    Once I get more into things on this new computer I'll try and start pumping out more and more things, and then I'll have more solid data to work with if I come into more errors or just more content to ask questions about etc.

    Thanks a ton guys.

    For example, rendering out with the default settings for x264 under 'Single pass - quantizer-based (CQP)' set to 6, I get this error when playing back in Media Player Classic:

    Code:
    MPC could not render some of the pins in the graph, you may not have the needed codecs or filters installed on the system.

    The following pin(s) failed to find a connectable filter:
    Audio Switcher::Out

    0010: 00 00                                           ..
    This doesn't make sense, since you need to have the codec installed to even see it as an option to encode with. This error seems common for me, I'll look into it myself but my query about general 720 rendering tips still stands.

    on a side note, .mov with jpeg B seems to be extremely stable and works perfectly... odd.
