    Jerky video

Hi, I have compressed a video clip using DivX 5.02 codec and the '1 pass quality' setting but everytime there is quite a lot of movement in the scene, the video becomes very jerky, especially during panning.

The jerkiness is not present in the original video and I have used a number of different keyframe intervals (from 300 to 50) without any noticable difference.

Changing the 'quality' setting on the Divx player used to play the click has no effect on this either.

Does anyone know how to overcome this problem please?

Depending on the movie I would recommend divx 3.11 alpha either high or low motion. Also, always do "two pass", perhaps give some more detail on the encoding procedure. What and how, and what software are you using?

Try using conversion software (such as Flask) that allows you to select "Reconstruct Progressive Images"...

        Thanks for the response guys.

Batman: I have been led to believe that DivX version 5 had all the benefits of the previous slow and fast motion settings in the previous version, is this not the case and are there benefits to using the earlier version? I have tried using 2-pass, the result was a slighly poorer image quality but much smaller file size. I am though still learning to use the codec settings so are there any you think, apart from keyframe intervals, that could improve the quality of scenes with movement?

Setarip: The software I am using is VirtualDub. The code has a setting under "Source Interlace" that allows 'All frames are progressive' to be set. Is this the same as what you mentioned? If so, I have already been using this.

Thanks again guys - much appreciated.

This is a subjective matter, try both. Divx 3.11 alpha is still good and is widely used
