Converting flv to play on standalone dvd

I downloaded the guide for img burn. I have version 2 something, maybe that is why, but it is so different I cant use it. For instance, under the file menu on my ImgBurn, the source is moser baer and I am supposed to select a file for destination, while in the guide these are reversed. Anyway I think I am way short of ready to start trying to burn anything yet. I wasnt even able to find out what kind of disc to use because I cant find out anything about my burner. I got stopped when I got to device manager, cd rom drive, properties and there was no settings tab!!!


I have been trying to solve this issue on my own for a couple of months now since everybody I ask in the town where I live doesnt know anything. I am learning very slowly that there are more things I dont know than I even know I dont yet know. I dont even know how to ask questions.


Let me explain what I am trying to do. I have flv files downloaded from youtube onto my pc. I have tried various conversion methods, and my original file of less than 15 mb can become as large as 250 mb. That is one issue. there are 52 files in this project!


I dont know what form I have to convert the files into in order to burn a dvd that can be played on a standalone dvd player bought in india. All I know is it wont play flv files but i can get the booklet and learn more about it from the person who wants to watch these files.


Originally I used different converters and many conversions failed-i have some of those logs if you want to see the results to know what kind of data I am dealing with; youtubes are not all the same. Now I am using AnyConverter because none of the files erred. But I realize they may be worthless. Some of them are full screen and some are not, which may be a problem.


I once had super c and almost killed my pc with it so I uninstalled. Please dont mention it!!


I have dvd flick and img burn downloaded to my pc. Here is a log of something I tried:

Can I make a dvd of 52 episodes of a serial on one or two discs? Total files in flv is 1 GB.
Second question:
What kind of information do you need from me to be able to tell if I have what is needed if it is a project that can be done?


Please dont laugh-i know it is a stupid project, but I want to help my friend. If he would accept as a gift, I would just buy the darn serial on disc and give it to him but that is not an option. Also I live in india, there are no bookstores and no way to order things through internet as I am in a rural area. It took me weeks to copy the flv's because I have dialup! This even sounds hopeless to me now...

Hi Linux,

Do NOT make and burn your DVD ... using DVD Flick one-step method.
I would make the DVD folder first THEN use ImageBurn to burn the project.

1) Just load up your FLVs into the DVDFlick and convert to DVD ... I am not sure how many can you fit to get 1 dvd ... but keep your Final Size below 4380MB. ( Ithink that is good enough for DVD+R).

2) Burn that DVD folder using ImgBurn on a DVD+R ... IF your DVD Burner can "BitSet" ... set the bitset to DVD-ROM ... it will play on any stand-alone.

converting flv to dvd

thanks for replying. i have used anyconverter and dvd flick to convert the flash files and get a file size as high as 570 MB (dvd flick) when my flv was only 19mb. is this a problem? i have 52 files!

i thought maybe most of the data is informational only and it wont actually be converted into a file of that size, is that possible? or is there a way to make the files small again after conversion?

how many mb are in i gb? only 1000, right?

May be you can try SUPER

May be SUPER will yield you a smaller file. Convert the .flv to AVI with XviD or MPEG ... then convert these files with DVD Flick!

The Super has more of choice on File Size and so forth!

flv to dvd

no, cant use super c-it made my monitor go blank for so long i thought it would never come back. twice...so i deleted it. too scary.

but here's the thing-i converted files to dvd pal and then put in dvd flick to make iso files-when they were done there were two folders, a video_ts and an audio_ts. the video was almost 1 gigabyte-and that was only two of the 52 files i want to put on dvd. they are ten minute episodes. i dont see how i could put two ten minute episodes on a dvd and make 25 dvd's to give to someone!

also-here's another little joke on me...the audio folder was totally blank. i have copies of various documents from dvd, i will paste at the end of my post.

also i forgot to say i use mozilla browser and i have windows xp pro service pack 2 edition. (still too scared to upgrade to service pack 3).

there are other documents called ffmpg and tcmplex, six altogether, if anyone wants to see them. also a file called dvdauthor. i started with two files in dvd pal format a total of 243 MB. that too is too big!

Yo BuyLinux,

Don't beat yourself ... I downloaded a .flv clip last nite about 5MB size and converted it to .mpg (which is bascially a DVD Format) and the smallest I could get the darn conversion to was about 7 times size of my Original 5MB ... meaning 35MB.

It seems a Normalconversion makes your Original File Size 10 Times Bigger.

So, either just convert and leave with it ... or just e-mail your Friend a copy of the latest VLC Player for her OS on her desktop and have her watch the .flvs and be done with.

If you are going to the trouble of Conversion then WHY not download the .MP4 (Higher Quality) format of the files rather than .flv ... so when converting over to DVD at least you have a BETTER SOURCE!
