Using DVD flick

Apologies in advance for the basic questioning but I am really pulling my hair out.

I have downloaded a movie and used DVD flick to attempt to convert to DVD, I now have a DVD flick file which I think is in FLV format and when I attempt to burn to DVD (using imgburn) the format is not recognised.

What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to complete the process

Any advice would be appreciated
