Are there any video players that allow you to "Step through" for screencaps?

Hello, I'm new! I wasn't sure where else to put this, so...

Are there any video players out there that have a "Step through" function, so that you can pause a DVD/video file etc., and then step through it frame by frame to screen capture it? Intervideo winDVD used to have a function like this, as far as I remember, but I just downloaded the new version and it doesn't seem to have this feature...

Are there any other video players that do have a feature like this?

Thanks very much. I hope I put this in the right place...

You can sort of do it manually in the latest version of PowerDVD. It also has the option to save captured screenshots to a series of files (something like PDVD_000.BMP, PDVD_001.BMP ...), and you can skip forward a frame at a time using the controls on the main console (or by pressing the "T" shortcut key), so you would capture ("C" shortcut), then skip ("T"), then press C, then press T ...

It works with both DVDs and video files, but not with Blu-ray movies (none of the players support frame capture for Blu-ray movies, due to copyright restrictions).

If you are looking to cap the whole thing I would search on "export stills".

From a quick search it seems VirtualDub will do it for .avi files. I know I've seen the feature in other video editing software(maybe Pinacle?) but it's been so long I can't be sure which.

I know there are some video softwares that will export all frames in a clip to stills. I'm just not sure how many free softwares there are that will do it.
