    Please Help! Compressor Error

    Please help!

I am trying to convert a dvd to divx using the MPEG2 guide. It runs for a while and then the "illegal operation" window pops up. In the top corner of the screen it reads: ERROR: COULDN'T FIND CORRECT COMPRESSOR ENTRY. Any ideas as to what is going wrong? All comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Thankx : )

"I am trying to convert a dvd to divx using the MPEG2 guide."

What programs are you using to rip and convert?

I used Smartripper to copy the dvd to my hard drive. I checked it and it played fine. I am trying to use DanniDin's GUI v.20j for the conversion.

Try using Flask (the older version 0.594, works like a charm, set audio to PCM 48,0000) to convert the ripped DVD to a DivX movie. Then use VirtualDub to convert and compress (and multiplex) thre sound to MP3 44,100. This will allow the sound to remain synchronized.

Thanks for the help. I have converted the rip with flask....but now I have another problem! I am following Nicky Pages guide on multiplexing and I got as far as selecting the wave (in VirtualDub-1_4c). I can't find a .wav file. I only have the movie output file. It has the Reel icon. Could Reel player have messed it up somehow? I am totally clueless at this point.

If you created the file using Flask, as I suggested, there is only one file (containing both audio and video) to load into VirtualDub. Load the file into VirtualDub. In VirtualDub, under the "Video" dropdown menu, change the setting to "Direct Stream Copying", under "the Audio" dropdown change the setting to "Full Proceesing Mode" - and then click on "Conversion" and select 44,100 - and then click on "Compression" and select your preferred sound compression (probably MP3) and sampling rate. Then, under the "File" dropdown, select "Save as .AVI" and give your file a new name.
