ac3dec and Rippack with windows XP

hey everyone. this is my first post here - i just regestered today.
ive gota say that this forum and the other digital digest pages have been a great in helping me "back up" all the DVDs that i rent.. er.. sorry.. own. he he... no really, i love you guys.

    anyway - enough ass kissing.

im not a smart man..... so i like to use those all in one encoding programs. the only one ive had much success with has been rippack (u know the one i mean??) right now im using rippack version 3 beta 15.5 - the latest version as far as i know.

it seems to be win XP compatable - and ive been able to create the vidoe part of the avi file perfectly. but the wav file cannot be created.

when i attempt to create the rippack file - windows tells me that ac3dec.exe has had a problem and has to be shut down. thankfully, windows does appologise which i supose makes everything ok.

is there a problem with ac3dec and XP???? ive installed the latest version. surely im just missing a codec or something??? - but im new at this so im not sure exactly what ive missed. ill provide as much info as i can - mabey someone can help me out.

ive installed divx 3.11 and 4.1 ; the radium audio codec, and rippack. ive told rippack where all the required files are - it can find ac3dec ok - just windows has a problem with it. ive tried replacing the ac3dec.exe file with the other executable file in the directory - decodevob.exe. no joy.

i was able to use rippack on win 98 - but XP looks so pretty.

    help.... cheers.,

ok - the problems seem to be only associated with the test movie trailer i was using. i was testing on the dogma preview - when i tried using another preview - snatch - everything seemed to work fine.

i encoded the dogma movie to avi without anyproblem.

ive got no idea why my test preview wouldnt work correctly.

my advise to those who are having problems with a particular program is to try it with more than one mpeg2 before giving up on it.

    hope this helps someone out.

    cheers
