audio probs. when cutting avi w/ virtdub

Hi all and thx for your time
Ok so I've got this avi (divx4, low motion) that I need to cut to fit on a couple of cds (using nero svcd plugin to burn). Well I dl'd virtual dub and tried cutting the file as per the how to on divx digest's web page... and the audio winds up being way ahead.
Yes, I tried the fix on the page for audio out of synch, and when I do that Vdub whacks the file down to like the last bunch of frames and no audio. Now I know I ain't no genius but I'm not the dullest tack in the box, and I can follow directions.
    Any help would be appreciated

Virtualdub has problems with avi file using vbr mp3 streams, use nandub to cut instead.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.
