    DVD burning problems with Nero 6 Ultra / Recode 2

    Dear All

    I recently upgraded my Nero 6 Ultra Edition to the latest version(6.6.0.16) through the automatic update. Since then most of my DVD copies whether from DVD9 to DVD5 (using Recode 2) or DVD5 to DVD5 have a persistent copy error even though Nero does burn the DVD-R with no error report! The problem is that all my DVD copies have a 2-3 minutes spot in the middle of the movie which freezes, when I look at the discs (DVD-R Melody) themselves, there's a circular line 1 cm from the outer edge of the disc (this appears on the exact same spot on several on my recently burned discs). I use DVDidle Pro to remove copy protection from the DVD9 movies using Recode 2 to copy them on DVD5 (DVD-R Melody).

    I have uninstalled Nero 6 Ultra and DVDidle Pro but that hasn't solved the problem, prior to this I never had any problem with Nero 6 Ultra to burn at least 30 of these Melody DVD-Rs.

    If anyone here can help identify the exact problem I 'd be most grateful!Here's a log from Nero:

    Looking over the Nero Logs, nothing jumps out at me. Could be a bad batch of media, Melody? sorry never heard of it. Check the Media code on a burnt disk against this list at videohelp.

    Occasionally even the best quality media will be a bad one that slipped past QC. Look at the blanks and see if you can see any irregularity in the same area. Try some different media and see if you encounter the same type of error.

      I know it says DVD-r for the media but this line confuses me:

      23:36:40 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270
      Last possible write address on media: 4718591 (1048:34.41, 9215MB)
      Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB)

      9215Mb?? is Nero set to DVD9 instead of DVD5?

          You need to reflash the firmware on your drive and/or try different media. Your drive is not recognizing the medai.

              You're right LT. I should have looked at it closer, I was just called on this @doom9 when I said "DVD-R doesn't show MID's on blanks like DVD+Rs do. It will only show it after the burn on DVD-Rs." But it turns out I was right there, and you're right here

              Anyway, I now have some more info on the Nero Error codes;

              Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST);
              Indicates that there was an illegal parameter in the command descriptor block or in the additional parameters supplied as data for some commands (FORMAT UNIT, SEARCH DATA, etc.).

              Sense Code: 0x24 = INVALID FIELD IN CDB
              CDB Data: 0x53 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x23 0x1C 0xB0 0x00 0x00 0x00
              I still don't know exactly what this is telling us yet.

                yeah taelon, i'd like to have nero's tech support explain why this is the case, maybe i will, as frustrating as it is dealing with them

                  Trying to create video DVD from Hi8 tape in my SONY Handycam

                  I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition. When I bring up the Nero Start Smart menu, which link do I use? I hooked up the video camera to the computer USB port, but I can't get any of the DVD or CD/DVD links in Start Smart to work. Any help is greatly appreciated.
