    Nero Recode crashes when converting

When I use Nero Recode to convert a DVD to a "Nero Digital" file (ripping the DVD, basically), it crashes right before inserting a title to the project. It does this for every DVD I have tried. I did a video capture using the DVD Valiant to test with (yes, they have been Decrypted) - can someone tell me why this happens?

    Here is the video.

Did you watch the video? It just crashes, and gives me the report to either send an error report or not. Even when I do, it doesn't tell me what happened.

I am experiencing the same error as well. This problem occurred upon upgrade to Nero 7. Since then, the problem still persists even though I've reverted back to Nero 6. Any solutions? Please advice. Thanks.

Not sure. And yes I have the latest version of Nero 6. I just bought it about a month and a half ago, directly from www.nero.com (download version). I hope that Nero 7 will solve it for me (I am getting that soon too - qualified for a free upgrade), but if not, I will probably call Nero tech support and see what I can come up with.

I just upgraded from Nero6 to Nero7 and am experiencing the same problem with Recode. It worked perfectly in Nero6, but there was the low volume problem that I've seen on various forums...so I upgraded hoping they solved it. Stupid me. It now won't convert to Nero digital and the "start-end" feature doesn't work either...the "start" screen is blank. This is using the same DVD that worked under Nero6. Further, Nero Tech Support has not replied to my two emails, the first of which was sent one week ago. Does anyone have any experience with Nero Support, positive or negative? By the way, I bought the upgrade using a credit card, and if I don't hear from Nero by the time I get the bill, I will not pay for the software, and the credit card company will make sure that Nero does not get paid. However, I was planning to downgrade back to Nero6, but based on the feedback here, the problem remains after the downgrade...why do you think that is?

                the clues!
                1. shrink is a very intensive transcoder and can bring a nonoptimized
                computer to it's knees
                2. recode is faster than shrink
                3. nero is a very dangerous thing to even upgrade(vs update)
and appropriate clean tools should always be used

After upgrading Nero 6 to Nero 7 and experience the problem, download and run Nero 7 Clean Tool to get rid of Nero 7 before using Nero 6 again:

My system: Windows XP-SP2; Dell Precision Workstation 3.4GHz Xeon; 2GB memory; video card ATI FireGL V3100. I uninstalled Nero6 before installing Nero7, but only used the Control Panel applet. Question: would the clean tool also make Nero7 run properly if I use it and then reinstall Nero7? Maybe there are still remnants of Nero6 from when I uninstalled that, and I should run the Nero6 cleantool as well? Finally: is Nero7 just plain no good, or is my system not good enough for it?

I would think a workstation class machine was more than adequate
for any video work, however Nero 7, like almost all early versions of nero,
is buggy! I would run both clean tools, the 6 and 7 versions. Ben is the
expert around here with nero 7, I seem to remember he got rid of it!

Ben, did you get rid of Nero7? Buggy is one thing, but unable to operate is another. Are you aware of any good workarounds for the Nero6 problem of low volume on Recode-ing DVD to Nero digital? The registry fix that was going around didn't do any good. Thanks.

This may or may not be your problem cause yours started with Nero6. But if now youve upgraded to Nero 7 and are having similar problems to others suchas you described perhaps this will work. This was taken from another site and it worked for me. Please lemme know if this helps.

After the program is installed, everything will work fine - until you open and close the "Nero Express" part of it and then try to open the "Nero Burning ROM" part of it. When you do, an error message will appear and the program will shut down. All other parts of the program will work, except for the "Nero Burning ROM" part of it.

Anyway, here is the work-around fix:

                          ---------------------------------------------------------------

                          Go to C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core.

                          Right-click nero.exe, then click Properties - Compatibility(tab).

Place a checkmark in Run this program in compatibility mode for:, select Windows 2000, then click Apply - OK.

That's all there is to it.

PS If you cant find the extension .exe try right clicking on the Nero icon (burning colleseum) properties, compat to 2000.

I uninstalled Nero7 and ran the Cleantool7. It wouldn't run because it detected some elements of a previous version (I used to have Nero6 but uninstalled it). I ran Cleantool6 but because I uninstalled the program, it wouldn't run until I could locate a home folder. So, I reinstalled Nero6 and then ran Cleantool6. Not that impressive...it left a lot of remnants. Then I installed Nero7 again...same problem I had to begin with (see my post #7). So, I ran Cleantool7 and reinstalled Nero6 (whew!). Now everything is fine. Version 6 runs well except for the low volume on Recode-ing to Nero Digital. The only thing is, I'm out the money that I wasted on Nero7. By the way, Nero support was less than helpful. I had to write to them four times to get a single response. They suggested something I didn't even understand. I asked for clarification and never heard from them again. Wonderful. This forum was way more helpful...thanks for trying.

                              could you elaborate please?
