I used my standalone player to burn a home video on VHS to DVD. the disc plays fine in my stand alone player, but not on my computer. it doesn't even register as a blank disc, it just says no disc in tray. how do i find out what format/file type my DVD is in, and how do i make additional copies of my DVD? any assistance would be greatly appreciated. cheers!

your owners manual should be able to tell you the format. -
my friend made the dvd, and tells me that has know idea what format the dvd is in. he did mention something odd though, he told me he tested the dvd on his pc and could play it with powerdvd as well as windows player, and also that he can make copies using nero. now on my pc i have all the same software but i'm unable to view or make copies?? i still get unrecognizable parameter and no disc in tray errors? what do i do? how can the dvd work in stand alone but not pc? thanksComment

I am confused now your friend burned it?
Don’t know what to tell you ask your friend.
My first impression is that you have one of those DVD recorders that hook up to you home theater system. If that is the case the answer will be in your owner’s manual if a friend did this for you then they would have an owner’s manual that would revile the format.
If you pc can’t read it, it may be the media that your burner doesn’t like.
You say this is home video what was the original video recorded from?
