    Problems with TMPGenc

I have an Avi Video that I want to convert to MPG.
I tried it with TMPGenc. The sound is fine but the screen is all
black. So I installed a lot of codecs but it wouldn't work.

I can play the avi with Windows Mediaplayer but not with
    any Divx Player.

Can anybody tell how I can convert this file?

    Any help is appreciated !!!

The video may be in one of the DivX 5.0 formats - which most, if not all versions of TMPGEnc can't presently process...

If, in fact, the problem is due to encoding with one of the DivX v.5 codecs, if you've also got either the DivX v.3.11 or one of the version 4 codecs installed on your system, use VirtualDub to compress the file using one of them (instead of v.5)...

dvd2svcd will let you convert avi to mpeg1/2 and i'm almost 100% sure tmpeg DOES handle divx5.02.
