does anyone know what the best variable bitrate to use in flask?

I'm new at this. I'm trying to get the best quality/size ratio. I'm using flask 4.9 and Divx 5.2 encoder. Is this a good video compresser or is there another one that's better to use?

Also, when choosing variable bitrate mode. What's the standard for best quality: 1-pass, 2-pass, 2-pass, second pass, etc... ?

    Probably some typical newby questions...

    Thanks!

    1. Substitute Flask for GordianKnot
    2. Use 2-pass encoding mode. For DivX 5.02, use "2-pass, first pass", followed by "2-pass, second pass" (that should make sense to you).

        You're welcome.

Just in case you need help with GordianKnot, a guide on using it is available in the forum, courtesy of UncasMS.

Found the guide, Gordian is much easier, just a few settings and let it do it's thing!

This might be a dumb question, does Divx 5 produce a better quality avi/size than Divx 3? Which one should I use, or does it matter?
            Thanks...

              go for divx5 - i prefer it to divx3

filesize shouldnt really matter when using a 2 pass routine, since you should get very close to your desired final output size.

I should add that DivX 5 does outperform DivX 3.11 in quality in most normal sources. However, I have found that the latter actually produces better results for animations for most cases, except for extremely noisy ones.
