Advice needed about a Good Player...

My bro by accident has upgraded to winodws media player 9, which by the way absolutely sucks. It gives crap, jerky playback. I cannot uninstall it and it has affected wmp6.4 in the same way, which makes it unusable.

So could anybody please suggest a good all-round player for playing DivX/Xvid and Mpeg2 files. Also one that preferably has good controls when in full screen playback.

    Thanks
    HoF

    1) Sasami Player

    2) You should be able to successfully use good ol' Windows Media Player v.6.4. Try reinstalling (Desktop>>Start>>Run>>MPLAYER2.EXE)

bs player if windows media player 6.4 doesnt work.
there should be a reinstall command for WMP 9.0 google it and find out.
EDIT - if you are using win xp, WMP 9.0 should have created a restore point before installing it, select system restore and go back

I do not want to reinstall WMP9.0 because it is basically useless.

I cannot use the option as many things have changed on my system for the good, making this option not feasible.

Thank you all for your suggestions, and I will try them, and let you know how it goes.

              Sasami Player

I installed 'Sasami Player' but when i tried opening a file it gives me the following message:

"unexpected error (invalid floating point operation)"

i then have to use ctrl+alt+del to close the player.

              Zoom Player

This gives ok avi playback, but its not the best. However when opening mpeg2 files it doesnt do well. PowerDVD so far gives best mpeg2 playback.
However when i try open a file which is encoded in DivX 5.0.2 it gives the follwoing error message:

              "invalid floating point operation"

              BSPlayer

This so far gives the best avi playback. It doesnt do well with mpeg2. However like Zoom Player, when i try open a file which is encoded in DivX 5.0.2 it gives the follwoing error message:

              "invalid floating point operation"

PowerDVD gave best Mpeg2 Playback, whileBSPlayer gave best general avi playback.

I have stopped the 'invalid floating point operation' error message appearing in Zoom Player and BS Player when opening DivX5.0.2 files by stopping the 'ffdshow filter' from playing back DivX 4 files.
I dont know why but it worked. Any answer to why would be helpful.

However i still cannot stop the error in Sasami Player appearing. It just refuses to play any files.

                Thanks for any help.

                  hi!
I use many players of which Real One Player Basic. It is free and plays mpeg2 files or DVD and avi files.
                  Quality is not so bad..

I do not consider RealOne Player 'free' as its has adware/spyware and it does not have very good functions as a player. I will just stick to PowerDVD for mpeg2 playback which came free with my dvd drive.

I have found a good player which is Media Player Classic. It is very good and does not even need to be be installed.
