Transform an avi into gif

i want simply know if it is possible to tranform an avi into a gif.

to capture a single frame of an avi/mpg you can load the file into virtualdubmod and use "video => snapshot source frame"

you'll be able to save to bmp,tga or png

just double click it, or you can choose; paint, windows picture viewer etc.

wmp won't open it when you change it to a pic

the video was at wmv, i put it into avi but the computer doesn't open the video with paint or windows picture and fax views.
what i must do?

well it won't if it's in avi. those applications will open an image file.

i've a 2mb wmv file. i want trasform it into gif to put it in my skyblog.

the procedures for that have been outlined in this thread. if needed, you can first convert to .mpg with tmpgenc. then change bmp to gif in paint. re-read this thread.

ok, now i have a file .mpg thet i can't open.
what i must do now?(what is bmp??).paint just doesn't open me the file

find the still (frame) you want by playing the file or using the slider.follow the above directions. save as a bmp. take that bmp now and open it in paint click "file" , then "save as" choose "gif". done.

i did all that you told me to do. but like that i take only a frame of the video, i want to transform all the video in gif, not only a frame.
