Vob Nandub

i know uncas ms will see this..lol...anyway.i recently restored the computer and reinstalled the usual programs..dvd2avi , nandub, vdub, tmpg..etc...i used to be able to put a vob straight into nandub and tmpg..but now i cant and i dont know which thing(codec or?) that i need. changing the vfapi settings under environmental setting in tmpg didnt help.i put in the regular stuff that i had before like the .vfp files for dvd2avi and quicktime etc.
...i feel stupid cause i usually dont ask questions..i do the best i can to help answer.

Have you set up vFAPI separately? From my experiences of post-reformats, you need to start-up DVD2AVI (Yes. Just have it open), and then setup vFAPI using the .bat file. After that, you can start creating .d2v project files and creating the 'fake' AVI files that nandub can open.

I do hope this relates to your problem.

thanks enchanter for the reply.but thats not what i meant..i can already do that..i meant i used to be able to rip the dvd and then put the vob straight in.without using dvd2avi.and now i cant.

I'm pretty sure nandub is always unable to open .vob files, making the presence of frameservers a necessity for those who wish to do SBC encodings. How could it have been that you can open vob files in nandub? Did you do any hacks of some sort to nandub that enabled you to do that? It'll be an interesting thing to do.

TMPGEnc, sure - but Nandub? When you say "straight in", are you referring to actually starting Nandub and loading a .VOB into it (which, as far as I know, is not possible), or were you doing it via a frameserving setup?

With regard to TMPGEnc, if you haven't already done so, from the "Option" dropdown menu, try clicking on "Register TMPGEnc.vfp to VFAPI"...

Also, you have reset your 30 day MPEG2 timer in TMPGEnc, haven't you?

actually i am NOT AWARE of any way to directly feed vobs into nandub.

a frameserving tool like vfapi/avisynth should be an inevitable must imho.

i used to do it in this order for quite some time:

sr => dvd2avi => vfapi => nandub



now i prefer this way:

sr => dvd2avi => gordianknot (cropping + resizing) => avs => nandub


btw: no asking - no progress

Uncas, may I just add something? The above method works fine for videos that do not need deinterlacing. With NTSC videos (Interlaced. Yeah!), we do need to apply a deinterlacer.

Smart Deinterlacer is a powerful tool, much more than the built-in one in GK (You can tweak the parameters). Also, the IVTC feature of GK does not work too well (It does not ALL the time for me, for FILM materials) and hence you need to apply deinterlacer in nandub. Some of us here would be aware already that it is a very bad idea to apply a deinterlacer after cropping & resizing.

In such cases, either vFAPI or GK will suit the job just fine. They work at the same speed for me. My thoughts.

to setarip:yes the 30 days is reset but there is a way around that when it expires..
i could be wrong about the nandub thing but will check..i could have sworn about 2 months ago uncas said it was possible..now ..since i am bored as heck..i am gonna go look at all his posts..lol
