can rebuilder do better?

i use shrink and recode2 for my back ups but, i've been thinking about using rebuilder for it is said to produce the best quality. the problem is that from what i have been reading it can take from 2 to 2.5 hour to back up a movie. since i do all my back ups main movie- only and as result the compression apply is very, very low (usually from 5% t0 0% compression) and after using deep analysis resolting in great quality copies. the question is: since rebuilder doesn't have just main movie only capability(i know it has main movie and menus) can rebuilder do better in term of quality?

it could do better - depending on more than one aspect

a range from 0-5% was NOT the case for most of the movies i reencoded lately even if i had chosen movie-only

most titles are indeed a little bigger than ~5000mb for the main title with only one audio stream left

when you deal with titles that say 5-10% reduction then maybe you best stick to dvd srhink and dont forget to use its AEC option

an encoder ala cce/hank's hc or procoder indeed takes longer than a transcoder ala shrink but using the AEC option + deep analysis (which i always do) shrink, too, will not finish in 15 min

i like to keep menues and some/most/all extras (excluding trailer) and thus i cannot think of a better quality than using an encoder-based solution like dvd rebuilder but in your case shrink might be the better solution

yes you are right most of my movie are from 0-10 % compression, some movies are 0-5 %. in any case since i have never have any interest in menus and trailers and all that stuff, i'll stick to shrink and recode2. i have the feeling that when applying very low compression, the quality among these three is the same( of course shrink and recode2 in main movie only mode).

deep analysis does not equal AEC

aec is an additional option which produces better quality for most titles

when you click *BACKUP* you find the Adaptive Error Compensation in the *quality settings* tab

i recommend to use this option though i'm not sure reduction levels with ~10% will gain from its use

In addition to want "UncasMS" has stated, I would stick with the "Default" selection in the AEC settings, which is "Sharp".
