The Matrix: Revolutions hangs with HC Encoder

I uses DVD Rebuilder with HC Encoder 0.15A to back up The Matrix: Revolutions, main movie only.

The quality is extremely fine compared to QuEnc. The fighting scene in the Logos with the light flashing continuously, HC Encoder shows no macro blocks while QuEnc shows macro blocks in some frames.

However, at the middle of this scene, the DVD starts to stutter and then hangs, like pausing. Fast forward and the DVD continues to play.

I tried this on my PC and it played OK (my DVD player is Pioneer DV-563A). I tried burning with 2x and still had the problem.

Is this a known issue? Any idea how to fix it?

hmmm sounds a little familiar to me, though i dont think that it is the encoder, that is to blame but rather the multiangle/ilvu source

i do have experienced exactly the same behaviour with aliens quadrilogy and the director's cut edition (not the theatrical ones) in thoses dvds

you could try another encoder like cce or procoder but i think it is rebuilder that is responsible


which version did you use?
did you preprocess your data?

on the other hand 015A is said to have minor flaws

maybe you should try 015 against it

I used DVD Rebuilder 0.93 with HC Encoder 0.15A. I just got DVD Rebuilder 0.94 with HC Encoder 0.15. Will try to see if it fixes the problem.

In fact it is a bug in HC which was introduced in HC015.
All software decoders and most HW-players will play it without any problem but some HW-players (some Philips, Koss and Pioneer types) don't like it.
It is solved in the next HC016 release, a test version of it, which can be used with DVD-RB, will be released very soon.

actually the problems i was talking about can NOT be related to hc015, because i also used cce and procoder and all output resulted in the very same mistake

I had a similar problem back in May with version .91 with the movie "Closer" when backing in movie only mode. I replicated the problem several times and then I sent a message to jdobbs and this was his reply.

Ok. I tested it and know what this is. I'll work on it today. I'd overlooked the handling of IFO portion of multiple angles when doing movie-only mode. The skipping and sound glitches are caused by segments of the movie that are multiangled switching back-and-forth.

If you find a problem that can be replicated let jdobbs and Hank if you're using the HC encoder know, it helps us all.

I'll check with some members at DVD Hounds and zentarium.com and see if they've experienced a similar problem with the same DVD set.

all encoded material freezes at some point or another in the DIRECTOR'S CUR (not theatrical version)

shrink transcoded material runs but isnt my idea of a decent backup

Is it a muxing problem an IFO problem or both? Does anyone know?

If an IFO problem - a mock strip might help.
If a VOB problem - a demux and remux with muxman might help.

Give it a try.
