I don't think that it's a muxing problem, I think that it's likely to be an ILUV problem. In the past I corrected them using DVDremake but RB has comes so far and that's not needed as often.

    Did you try Remake?

Well, the Interleave is part of the mux. And bitrates come into play as it's easy to go over the 9.8 Mbps video max (and 10.08 Mbps total) if there's lots of angles.

DVDremake won't cure your problem if you have a desire to keep the extra angles but if you don't care, then DVDremake will strip the extra angles while leaving the movie in tact and then RB can encode them.

getting rid of the multiangle would be possible in numerous ways and indeed that was not my intention

I'll obtain a copy of the Alien quadrilogy and give it a go. I find that multi angles rarely add anything to the movie but then more often than not I prefer movie only back ups with the menu.

the rc1 versions seems to behave different

jdobbs owns it and successfully backed it up

What's the difference between the RC1 and RC2 versions that would make one more compatible than the other?

                    Matrix Revolutions working now

I tried again with HC Encoder 0.15 (comes with new version of DVD Rebuilder) and no hanging now with Matrix Revolutions.

I forgot to check which matrix was used (the first copy with issues was done with QLB matrix), so it could be either:
                    - HC Encoder
                    - The matrix used
                    - DVD Rebuilder (0.94 vs 0.93).

Anyway it's working for me now Thanks for the information.

                      @ sophocles

i wouldnt know what the difference might be and i ahvent had the time to doublecheck if my backups might run on a different player

i tried all four titles so far, used 3 different encoders, 2 different types of media and no success and i have not one single dvd that does not run on my player

i still have no idea what really caused the freezes when playing back those titles on my standalone but my solution was this:

having had the final material created by rebuilder (no mater which encoder was used - tried hc015/016/cce250/cce270/procoder) all i did was loading the 4.5gb into shrink and had it saved once more

very small portions were removed by shrink (a couple kb) and that was it

all 4 alien dvd now run perfectly fine with each of them containing director's cut/special edition + theatrical version

Yes, I've used Shrink many times to get over a frustrating backup, it makes subtle changes just as you stated that seems to make a file DVD compliant even using zero compression. It also however seems to have the softening effect on the video which is a small price compared to nothing.
