I tried DVD Rebuilder [free] and had it lock up my computer after trying to backup and recode 'Nixon'. I then paid for the upgrade to Professional and tried to backup and recode another movie from my hard drive [it had been ripped by DVD Decrypter] and saved on my hard drive. I tried using DVD Rebuilder Pro on that one, and had the same result. My computer seems to work fine for approximately 10% of the project and then totally locks. I cannot even copy the 'progress' indicator to post here. It does not show any error messages. Any suggestions?

If you are using the new HC16 beta, there have been reports of it locking in EncoderMinimised mode. Try setting options to non-minimised.

actually the latest 016 TR does not lock up the system (afaik) it only does not proceed and needs to be brought back to the screen to have it *reanimated*
it sounds like an instable system from what i hear so far
did you ever successfully use any encoder before, davidb2989?
did you have any other hickups or freezes (e.g. when playing)?
did you make any changes to your system recently?
are you sure that your temperatures are not too high?
(encoding is way more demanding than almost everything else)

I have only used DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and DVDFab with no problems. I got the DVD Rebuilder as I wanted to backup 'Nixon' which is a very long movie and could not be shrunk enough with DVD Shrink.
Are any of these programs considered decoders?
I have had no successful results to see if there are hickups or freezes
I have not changed anything on my system lately, and everything else seems to work properly

Seems that error 52 has something to do with paths - perhaps...• Corrected a problem in which attempting to call an encoder with an incorrect path could cause "Runtime Error 52" and cause Rebuilder to abort.
Which encoder do you use in the top menu of DVD Rebuilder -> Mode CCE/ReJig/QuEnc/HC/ProCoder
