WOTW encoding problem - El Boricua's thread

yo Blutach I'm kinda having problems with War Of The Worlds here, I can notice some macroblocks in Dark Scenes, and I used HC Encoder, this is my log by the way for you to see what bitrates are

[16:05:33] Phase I, PREPARATION started.

- AVS Filters are enabled.
- "Movie Only" mode is enabled.
- VTS_02: 3,634,859 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V & .AVS files
-- Processed 167,680 frames.

- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 71.2%
- Overall Bitrate : 5,931/4,745Kbs
- Space for Video : 4,050,606KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 5,478/600/4,745 Kbs

I also used UnDot, Deen, and FluxSmooth and I can still notice it

I never use a filter. Those bitrates are superb. Normally (at least with HC) you can substitute a different matrix if required (using Rockas's RME). But 5931/4745 is sensational. I am not at all sure why you'd be getting blocks.

Can you post an example?

Well On The Standalone DVD Player is where I notice it more, but it's not that noticeable if you see it from the computer

Upload your image to www.imageshack.us and post the link for forums (1) here. Make sure it's less than 1Mb or IS will reject it.

Well There Is One, You Can't Really Notice in the computer but when I see it on the TV, I can notice it

I just saved that pic to my desktop and blew it up to 800 mag. Despite it being compressed further as a PNG (JPEG is the better format to post), there is no blockiness at all.

Well I kinda notice some blocking when I put it on the Standalone DVD Player for the TV

I also did WOTW R2 with HC and with a similar reduction level and DD and DTS audio. I did notice a few bits of blocking but it was only noticeable on my projector. I think the grain in the film probably makes it harder to encode.

I don't bother with filters.

- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 4,467/2,879/4,186 Kbs

This is what I got with just DD audio.

It's noticeable in my TV, when it goes to dark scenes

You might like to try to raise the minimum bitrate. This is another hidden setting

In the rebuilder.ini file, under [options] use this line:

MIN_BITRATE=NNN where NNN = say 1000 (current default is 500 or 600 I think).

does it work for HC cause you should read also the War Of The Worlds topic in Doom9 also

since rb is making the decisions on bitrate, yes, it will work for hc as well as any other encoder

Does it say supposed to say in the DVD Rebuilder Log, what the minimum bitrate is?
