Capturing matrices??

I've read here and there that people are able to capture studio matrices off of new video's to use in their encodes is this a complicated matter?
I have rme but am fairly new it's usage, if someone has a guide or a simple explanation please let me @ it, a search left me confused?

It's not really that hard... the matrix is stored in the stream. But since in most cases you are going to radically change the bitrate -- do you really want to use that matrix? You're usually better off using a matrix that is designed for the new encode rather than the original.

I would love it if you could link me up with good source for matrices have not seen any posted with a good description of there usefulness.
but I will trythem out anyway just like to exp when I get the time!

Have you tried Rockas' Matrix Editor? You can read about it here. It allows you to load, test, and save them for use in DVD Rebuilder.

The idea behind RME is to have a look at the average bitrates of the various segments/VTSs and run with a matrix that is close to that segment. For extras, which you might be stealing space from (or doing in half D1), you might be encoding with a 2500-3000 matrix while for the main movie, you might wanna stick to the encoder default or the Fox Home Entertainment 4000+ (High-High).

RME makes this a breeze. Play around with it a bit l8nights

To make it even easier, copy the MTX files from the matrix subfolder of the RME install directory to your Matrix folder in DVD Rebuilder. Access it via Options/ Advanced Expert Options/ Quant Matrices

I'll give that a try, so just to rehash, I can add these captured matrices as well as angel and other extra's of rme and apply them to main movie,low bitrate,extra's etc,etc,...

I have one ? for you blu, jdobbs,un what is the cut-off for low and extra low bitrates to be applied??

and just to double check an assumption these will overidematrices set for main feature & extra's or just main feature?

The matrix you choose will show up in your rebuilder.ini file for the 4 types. The second you click it, rebuilder.ini is updated.

I would regard low BR as sub 2500 and VLBR as MPEG1 quality. The matrices in RME are labelled for you. Medium-low etc. You'll get a feel for it.
